DAS ZWERGGECKO-FORUM

Hallo,
Nach den letzten Neubeschreibungen innerhalb der Gattung Gonatodes im Jahre 2008 sind auch im Jahre 2010 wieder zwei Arten hinzugekommen:

Gonatodes astralis SCHARGEL, RIVAS, MAKOWSKY, SEÑARIS, NATERA, BARROS, MOLINA & BARRIO-AMORÓS, 2010

Gonatodes lichenosus ROJAS-RUNJAIC, INFANTE-RIVERO, CABELLO & VELOZO, 2010

Letztere ist die erste Gonatodes-Art ohne Geschlechtsdichromatismus.

Hi Dennis,

thank you very much for your information concerning two new descriptions of Gonatodes species - G. astralis and G. lichenosus.

Frankly speaking, I had my eyes on stalks as a snail some days ago when I have browsed the Gonatodes de Venezuela/Facebook slide show presented on website of Venezuelan friend Luis.

The slide show also contains the pictures of two new species and because some pictures are titleless there you can imagine my pretty big surprise while browsing them all .

I am sure that you already saw the beautiful pictures of, not formally described, Gonatodes rozei. Reportedly, Gonatodes machelae, an endemic species from Isla de Margarita (Margarita Island) has been waiting for its official description for longer time. I had no opportunity to see this Gonatodes species titled picture as yet. All I know about this specie is that G. machelae is smaller specie in comparison with mentioned Venezuelan mainland species G. rozei.

yes, you are fully right that the Gonatodes machelae should be the Isla de Margarita Gonatodes sp. the picture of which you refer in your previous post to.

Two more pictures of this newly discovered, but still formally undescribed, Gonatodes are available in book Amphibians and Reptiles of Margarita, Coche and Cubagua by Ugueto, G. N., Rivas Fuenmayor, G.
