Dear all,

Grateful for any assistance. I am back in Cotonou, Benin and took the attached photo today. Apologies for the poor quality, the light was poor inside the office and my camera had reset certain settings!

Anyway, this is 'the species' that my friend claims has been resident in Cotonou for some years. It is maybe half to two-thirds the total length of the Lygodactylus grotei I posted last month. My friend reckons that this is an adult and that the baby is smaller than a thumb-nail.

Grateful for any advice. (I have my own views, but I will not bias discussion/feedback by airing them just yet!)

Many thanks,

Guy

Hi Guy,

This is L. conraui. :)

Thank you, Maureen.

This species seems to be native to Benin, at least according to The Reptile Database at http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/species?genus=Lygodactylus&species=conraui&search_param=%28%29.

Did you see my earlier post with image that was identified as L. grotei? If so, do you have an opinion on the ID? The red tail is not very marked (rather orange) and the presumed subadult animal did not have a red tail at all! I have some doubts about the likelihood of the two species occuring within 100 m of each other ...

I have additional images of presumed L. grotei from my last visit to Cotonou when I photographed the L. conraui. Let me attach one here...shortly...

Many thanks for any advice.

Guy

Hi Guy,

In your previous topic, all animals are grotei, with the exception of this one - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2301#p8875 . In that reply I would more say they are L. conraui.

Thanks again, Maureen.

Strange that the two species should co-habit...but maybe not so strange?

Hi Guy,

Not so strange, many species share the same habitat location as others. :D

Greetings,
Maureen

The occurrence of L. grotei in Benin on the basis of my observations has been debunked.
