Hi!! Sorry if I use the english language first but really it is easier for me!! I was wondering what genus and what species I could eventually keep in my terrarium: it is a exoterra size 60x45x45cm. There is a Zoo med 5UVB light (possibility to put a 11UVB) I also have a heating light 50w. The Terrarium has a wood bark bottom with moss, I have also a driftwood and bambou in there. Hanging plants on the sides of the terrarium. I am also planning into putting more hanging plants and natural plants on the bottom as more bambou and branches... Planing also to have an hydratation system!! Regarding this: I have thought about Lygodactylus williamsi But would be interested into keeping a Gonatodes or Sphaerodactylus!! What are you thought on which species would be best for me!! In advance many many thnaks Cheers Yann |

Hello Yann, The tank is perfect for a pair of Gonatodes. The light would be ok for them, but they don´t need bamboo. They prefer wood with a rougher surface. Put some cork-bark in front of the backwall and they love to hide behind it. Don´t forget to plat some real plants in there, the tank will be much more beautiful without plastic-plants. It´s better to keep L. williamsi in higher tanks, but it should work as well. But that species need more light. You should add 1-2 light bulbs to light the whole lenght of the tank. Greetings Dennis |

Hi Dennis!!! Vielen Dank für dein Antwort If I got it right, I shall not glue the cork bark to the glass??, or shall I put a thiner one on the glass and the other one in front. I am planning on putting real plants, and gradually taking out the plastic ones. I have just 2 pieces of bamboo and won't put any other...I have added some branches of wood in it. I have one more light bobble 11UVB (I shall add it as well so)?? In advance thanks Cheers Yann |

Gonatodes and Sphaerodactylus do not really need UVB lamps and in some cases people have had death in animals where UVB lamps were used. 2.0 and 5.0 are safest since the majority of it is filtered by the ventilation screens, but 10&11% should really only be used over dessert animals requiring a higher UVB levels. Me personally I do not use UVB lamps for my Sphaerodactylus (I use crushed up sepiaschalen) since the majority hide. I only use UVB lamps over tanks of Lygodactylus and Phelsuma. |

Hi Maureen!! Many many thanks for your antwort, I visualise better know what Dennis meant Very interesting information regarding the UVB llight, I didn't know about it. I know that glass capts and reflects UVB, my terrarium is covered with a wire mesh which should normally let UVB go through, so basically I shall add another light which would not produce UVB?? Cheers Yann |

Cheers Yann Hi Yann, If you in the end choose Sphaerodactylus honestly I would just use two regular T5 14 (HE) bulbs in colors 840 & 865 (860 is ok too) and maybe a 20w halogen heat lamp if the tank is not warm enough with the two 14W bulbs. I believe the UVB bulb would just be a waste with these animals, since they can do fine without UVB so long as you use the proper vitamins and offer crushed up sepiaschalen for the females. If you already purchased the ZooMed bulb you mentioned, you could use it, but to be safe rather than sorry I would recommend to raise it up off the tank a small bit as I know those bulbs have a far range of UVB output even when used over tanks using very fine mesh. Not everyone has had problems of death with using UVB over a Gonatodes or Sphaerodactylus tank, but since it has been quite a few, I recommend to avoid it. Kind Regards, Maureen |
